Cellophane

Poem inspired by reading a little trivia fact in Discover Magazine a while ago.

But it just came to me tonight!

1940

Straight chemical cola
filling corner after corner
after corner
of fillings, silver
and gold
in my mouth
all twisted now
catching radio signals
Bending the page to
mimic hearts beating
percussive histories
embedded deep in my
memory
the second most beautiful word
in the English language
right between
‘mother’
and
‘cellophane’

And omg, PLEASE, you guyz, do NOT wrap your babies in cellophane to give them away as a gift…
